Norse Atlantic Airways has announced plans to offer flights from Athens and New York JFK.
The service announcement sees the airline enhancing its commitment towards the United States and offering a robust transatlantic service into 2024.
Norse Atlantic’s New Flights
The airline is slated to operate service between Athens and New York JFK from 30 May 2024 to 26 October 2024. As a result, this service will only be operational during the summer season.
However, similarly to other previously announced routes that have performed well, the airline may be inclined to increase flights year-round, again dependent on performance.
Norse’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner will operate this service. The airline operates exclusively with the Boeing 787 series to facilitate their long-haul travel requirements.
The carrier says its 787 Dreamliners are configured with premium and economy cabins. The premium cabin features a pitch of 43″ and 12″ recline. Norse described this as an industry leader for the type of cabin.
Norse Outlines Reasons For Launch
Norse Atlantic Airways says that they believe an increasing number of Americans are interested in travelling towards Athens, and thus, the new route will help facilitate that.
We are thrilled to announce the commencement of ticket sales for our Athens to New York JFK route. This launch underscores our commitment to meeting the evolving travel needs of our passengers. We believe this route will not only cater to the demand for travel to Greece but will also create opportunities for cultural exchange and business collaborations between these two vibrant destinations.Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and Founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.
Athens International Airport says they’re very excited about the upcoming service launch and to see Norse Atlantic operate from the airport.
The belief is that a route will truly enhance connectivity to the United States from Athens and the surrounding cities and locations in Greece.
Service to the United States from Athens is described as the most dynamically developing market in 2023, with passenger numbers between the city and all U.S. destinations growing.
As a result, Norse believes their entry into the market with ultra-low-cost fares will provide competition alongside cheaper flights for customers.
A Shifting Route Network For Norse
Norse Atlantic has continued to adjust its route network over recent history. The carrier has primarily made these changes as it attempts to find ways to mitigate the problematic winter season, where demand typically drops for carriers such as itself.
For the 2023/24 winter, Norse has made several changes to its route network with a shift in focus to warm weather destinations. The ambition is that through the change, the airline will be able to mitigate some of the troubles it has experienced during low points of demand during the year.
These changes have seen the airline fly East for the first time towards Bangkok in Asia, deemed a popular holiday destination and focus has shifted towards The Carribean.
