Norse Atlantic Airways will, from October 28, begin thrice-weekly flights for the first time to Cape Town in South Africa with its 787s.

Norse Atlantic Airways is continuing its diversification of its route network by announcing plans to introduce service to South Africa for the first time.

From October 28, 2024, the carrier will begin service from London Gatwick through Cape Town in an attempt to mitigate losses felt during the winter season.

Thrice weekly flights will depart on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays as part of the continued network optimisation. Service will depart London Gatwick at 2000 and arrive in Cape Town at 0930 the next morning.

Meanwhile, service from Cape Town departs just over two hours later at 1145, with a same-day arrival back into London at 2135.

Norse describes the latest route announcement to South Africa as a response to the continued shift in customer interest. Additionally, the airline wants to break down a duopoly in the space.

Norse will compete with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, which offer service between London and Cape Town. Executives believe that their airline’s low-cost fares will make it a more attractive option for many travellers.

Additionally, the company utilises a fleet of only Boeing 787s, a modern widebody aircraft that the airline offers two classes. Premium and Economy are featured, focusing on their seat pitch and offering the most comfortable service possible.

A Network Shift

Cape Town marks the second route in as many years as it has launched, which has moved away from the contemporary network focus initially outlined by the carrier. Norse previously focused significantly on North American services from ports in Europe.

However, as time progressed, it became aware of the struggles experienced in serving these markets during down months. Last year, the airline launched a service to Bangkok in Asia, marking the first time the airline ventured that far East.

Now, adding Cape Town to the network for the Southern Hemisphere summer schedule is another crucial step in attempting to cement itself into new markets.

Comments On Norse Launch To South Africa

We are thrilled to introduce our new route between London and Cape Town. By breaking the duopoly on this route, we are not only expanding travel options for consumers but also driving down costs and putting the customer back in the pilot’s seat. At Norse Atlantic Airways, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the wonders of the world and our new route to Cape Town will allow many more people to visit this amazing destination.

Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and Founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.

We are proud to welcome another new route from Norse Atlantic, connecting passengers across London and the South East with Cape Town from October. Norse has continued to grow at London Gatwick and provide excellent connectivity to a number of key markets across the USA. This new route to South Africa is great news not only for those looking for a fantastic holiday destination, but also for trade and inbound tourism.
