Melbourne Airport experiences shutdown leaving flights delayed
Melbourne Airport experienced a shutdown today due to a supposedly triggered fire alarm.
This caused the airport’s Air Traffic Controllers to evacuate the tower, this, in turn, resulted in aircraft departures being suspended and inbound aircraft circling.
A fire alarm is thought to have caused the evacuation from the tower.
Some flights circled while others diverted to airports such as Sydney and Canberra. Although as of 2:00pm AEDT the issue has been resolved now and flights have resumed.
All operations at this time are normal and flights are able to depart as well as land. It’s recommended you check with your airline to see if there are any delays.
