Lufthansa has confirmed it’s launching new nonstop service between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur from 25 October 2026. This is another step, however, more importantly, in the rollout of its new 787 product.
The Kuala Lumpur flight, while marking the fourth destination in Southeast Asia, is now also the first in the region to be served exclusively from Lufthansa Group’s core European markets. Additionally, it is just one part of the sweeping changes taking place with the Boeing 787.
The New Lufthansa Route & Aircraft
Lufthansa says the new services will depart Frankfurt at 2130. This is LH704, with a scheduled arrival in Kuala Lumpur at 1640 the following day; these times are local. Meanwhile, LH705 has been tasked with departing Kuala Lumpur at 2355 and arriving in Frankfurt the following morning at 0600.
The German flag carrier has taken careful consideration when scheduling these flights, especially inbound flights back to its Frankfurt hub, where a 0600 arrival allows seamless connections to its extensive European network.
The Boeing 787-9, one of the newest models in the business, is being tested on this flight and will carry 287 passengers to and from Kuala Lumpur in a three-class layout; however, it’s more than just the 787-9 that will feature on this route.
As part of the continued rollout, the route will also welcome the brand-new Allegris cabin from Day 1. This latest investment, which encountered its fair share of struggles in debuting on the Dreamliner amid delays and certification woes, increases the premium product’s visibility across Southeast Asia.
The Purpose Of Lufthansa’s Allegris
Allegris for Lufthansa is part of its next-generation long-haul cabin programme, intended to offer a significantly elevated experience for premium-paying passengers after years of neglect and damage to its brand reputation.
This is a multi-billion-euro investment, one of the largest in the company’s history, and it looks to add new seats, lounges, and enhancements, and to focus on driving premium revenue while building something comparable to other legacy competing airlines that’ll drive the turnaround efforts.

The first Allegris cabin entered service two years ago; however, the business has been slowly taking delivery of jets, albeit much slower than it would like. Those delays have caused public frustrations as they not just impact fleet renewal but also the rollout of a more cohesive and upmarket offering aimed at helping drive a turnaround.
Lufthansa’s Commitment To Allegris Grows
Alongside its commitment to launching service to Kuala Lumpur, Lufthansa reaffirmed its ambition to elevate service by equipping its aircraft with Allegris, rewarding those cities that demand the premium travel experience.
The flag carrier is to fly to no fewer than 11 new destinations in the Winter 2026/27 schedule, with Allegris featured onboard these flights. Frankfurt will see the airline offer new long-haul routes with Allegris to Vancouver (Canada), Houston (USA), Denver (USA), Atlanta (USA), Detroit (USA), San José (Costa Rica), Seoul (South Korea), and now Kuala Lumpur.
Then, from Munich, the airline has announced that the new Allegris destinations will be Singapore, slated to start in late October 2026, followed by Washington in the United States in March 2027 and Cape Town in South Africa in the same month next year, in time for the Northern Summer 2027 schedule.
All this will also follow a planned increase in frequency across several of its high-demand transatlantic routes from Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), San José (Costa Rica), Bogotá (Colombia), and Lagos (Nigeria), with more flights. Then, from Munich, São Paulo (Brazil), Mexico City, Johannesburg (South Africa), and Washington (USA) are also set to benefit from the new service.
