Kuwait Airways Orders the A330-800neo
Kuwait Airways has placed an order for eight of the A330-800neos. The agreement was signed at the Airbus headquarters in Toulouse and this order has in fact been rumoured to have been in the works for some time now. No doubt with the official announcement both parties will be extremely pleased.
The Airbus Chief Commercial Officer commented on the order saying “We are delighted that Kuwait Airways has chosen the A330neo as a cornerstone of its future widebody fleet. The A330-800 with its unique efficiency and versatility will support the carrier’s ambition to develop its expanding long-haul network,” He went on to add “The aircraft will seamlessly complement Kuwait Airways’ A320neos and A350 XWBs and deliver unbeatable operating economics, full operational commonality, and unmatched passenger experience.”
Kuwait Airways have the A320neo and A350 both on order as stated above and in addition, they operate the likes of the 777-300ER and A330. Interestingly enough the airline operates specifically the A330-200 and has now placed orders for the A330-800. Deliveries are set to commence in 2019 and will continue long after that and the aircraft while being ordered for fleet expansion will likely also act as a replacement for the a330-200.
The Chairman of Kuwait Airways also said “The A330-800 will seamlessly fit into our fleet expansion and growth plans. Its unbeatable operating economics and performance in addition to best in class passenger comfort make it a sound investment. We are confident that the A330-800 will support us to compete effectively on our expanding route network. Our relationship with Airbus extends beyond aircraft acquisitions and we look forward to furthering collaboration on technical fields.”
The new order from Kuwait Airways further boosts the A330neo program and gives the unpopular -800 version some new much-needed orders. The A330neo will be an aircraft that will stick around for years to come. It won’t receive huge orders but gradually will receive some and in turn, will build up a healthy total.
