Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A321neo on final approach into San Jose International Airport

Hawaiian Airlines has announced a sizeable service expansion utilising its Airbus A321neo aircraft with new routes set to debut.

The airline says it’s thrilled with the new routes to launch alongside a new city within the United States to boost connectivity.

New Routes Coming In 2024

From May 15, 2024, Hawaiian Airlines will touch down in Salt Lake City with plans to operate service daily utilising its A321neo.

The carrier says flight HA84 will depart Honolulu at 1850 and arrive in Salt Lake City the following morning at 0515. This is before HA83 departs Salt Lake City at 0700 and arrives in Honolulu at 0955.

Hawaiian firmly believes that with this optimal timing, destinations travelling to Salt Lake City or Honolulu can maximise their first day.

However, new services do not stop just at Salt Lake City as Hawaiian continues its network expansion into 2024.

Lihue to Sacramento will launch on May 24, 204. Four weekly flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The service will operate HA66 from Lihue with departure scheduled for 1205 and arrival into Sacramento at 2025. Departure will be the following morning at 0810 as HA65 before arrival back into Hawaii will occur at 1050.

Lastly, Hawaiian has plans to launch service from Kona to Sacramento along with flights departing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

HA74 will depart Kona at 1215 and arrive at 2025. Departure will occur as HA73 the following morning at 0810 and return to Kona at 1040. Therefore, the timings of the Lihue and Kona flights will be very similar.

Comments From Executives

Hawaiian Airlines’ expanded service is a response to meaningful demand from one of our top 20 U.S. markets, and provides more opportunities for our kamaʻāina to travel and for friends and family members to return to Hawaii. We appreciate Hawaiian Airlines and its longstanding commitment to serving the people of Hawai’i and bringing mindful visitors to our state.

I am pleased to share that Hawaiian Airlines has added new nonstop flights from Sacramento International Airport (SMF) to Līhuʻe and Kona. This is the first ever direct service to Līhuʻe, giving our customers yet another exciting option when planning their next island vacation.

The Hawaiian Airlines Fleet

Hawaiian Airlines operates a fleet of 60 in-service aircraft, per the latest data from Cirium. These are spread across a handful of Airbus and Boeing aircraft types.

The airline relies the most on its Airbus A330-200s, where 24 units remain in service. This is closely followed by 19 717-200s.

However, as part of the next-generation fleet, the airline flies 16 A321neos, with two units parked per the latest data.

These new aircraft have been labelled as essential to Hawaiian’s growth plans. The planes are kitted out with 16 luxurious leather recliners, 45 extra comfort premium economy seats and 128 standard economy seats.

Meanwhile, the airline says guests on the A321neo can experience USB outlets, advanced overhead stowage space and wireless streaming entertainment. Plus, complimentary Wi-Fi will be rolled out starting early next year thanks to the high-speed Starlink internet.
