flydubai, an all-Boeing operator, has publicly expressed its frustrations with Boeing over the continued delayed delivery schedule.
The Dubai-based carrier relies heavily on Boeing to power its fleet; the airline has even committed its future to the company with next-generation aircraft.
The American planemaker has been considered the perfect option for narrowbodies such as the 737 MAX and the Boeing 787, redefining flydubai in the coming decades.
However, like many other airlines, flydubai’s ability to acquire next-gen aircraft has become difficult, and now this company is publicly voicing its frustrations.
As the 2024 Farnborough Airshow commenced with maximum attention on the aviation industry, the company published a press release detailing its annoyance.
In the release, flydubai stated that Boeing’s latest updates have significantly impacted its planned expansion on its delivery schedule for new aircraft.
This has forced flydubai to pivot its already-in-place expansion strategies to reflect the lack of new aircraft deliveries over the coming months.
flydubai has been informed that it won’t be taking delivery of any new aircraft from Boeing for the remainder of the year, which is a crushing blow.
The carrier has stated that the reduced capacity it’s seeing will affect its customers and extend further to the airline’s financial performance, an incredibly frustrating realisation for the airline.
flydubai still values its long-standing relationship with Boeing. However, the airline has publicly called on Boeing to take immediate action to stabilise the overall production and delivery processes internally.
Across the space of three years, flydubai says that its delivery schedule has not occurred as intended, and multiple revisions mean 14 deliveries initially expected won’t happen.
The airline’s growth plans depend entirely on the delivery of these next-gen single-aisle planes, and without them, new challenges exist internally.
In its best efforts to mitigate the overall operational and cost implications of the delivery delays, flydubai says it has been forced to extend the lease of some aircraft that were previously scheduled to return to their lessor.
Furthermore, similar to other airlines, they’ve initiated a rather pricey but extensive retrofit programme for the fleet of 737NGs. The hope is that this programme will create a more harmonious inflight experience.
