Emirates is removing an Airbus A380 from one of its four daily Dubai-to-London Gatwick rotations, but for the second half of September.
The change to the EK9/10 flights will see a switch away from the superjumbo to the Boeing 777-300ER, representing a capacity reduction and showing how flexible the Emirates operation has become.
Emirates’ adjustment towards London Gatwick is just a temporary capacity reduction, with the airline still committed to serving the airport four times a day across three separate aircraft types; this is a mixed long-haul fleet use case.
The Airbus A380, Boeing 777-300ER, and Airbus A350-900, the newest addition to the fleet, will all be deployed on the Dubai to London Gatwick operation. That means even with the A380 switch from the EK9/10 flight, there will still be a presence of the superjumbo, just at a reduced rate.
What Emirates Is Changing In September To London Gatwick
Under the revised September schedule and flagged by aeroroutes.com, EK9 departing Dubai at 1455 and arriving at London Gatwick at 1945 will be switched to the 777-300ER. Returning as EK10, the departure is scheduled for 2145, with a next morning 0740 arrival back in Dubai.
That change will occur across the second half of September and accounts for just one of the four daily flights Emirates has scheduled to Gatwick, with the arrival timings spread throughout the day.
The lone A380 flight for the second half of September will be EK15 with an 0800 departure from Dubai and a 1235 arrival in London Gatwick. The superjumbo returns as EK16 with a 1435 departure from Gatwick and an early next-day arrival in Dubai at 0045.

Emirates will therefore, across two of the four daily flights, use its Boeing 777-300ER; one flight will remain with the Airbus A380-800, and the last service, EK69/70, will be with the newest acquisition in the Airbus A350.
EK69 departs Dubai at 1650; it’s therefore the latest departure from the airline’s hub of the day to Gatwick, with a 2130 arrival in London. The A350 returns at 2355 with a next-day touchdown back in Dubai at 1000 as EK70.
Gatwick Remains Critical For London
Emirates hasn’t been a stranger to changing frequencies and swapping out aircraft, especially as it undergoes its most ambitious cabin retrofit programme in history, which is worth billions. Those retrofits will see most of its current fleet go in for work, resulting in some scheduled downtime and necessitating temporary schedule changes.
London Gatwick serves as another pillar of broader service to London, with Heathrow its main market; the secondary Gatwick flying ensures the airline has another presence in the city where premium and leisure traffic can be met, at a fraction of the slot cost of its much larger neighbour.
In 2026, London Gatwick welcomed Premium Economy for the first time with the introduction of the new A350-900 on the fourth daily flight. The schedule continued to vary, bringing more flexibility and comfort to passengers’ journeys.

With six daily flights into London Heathrow and four daily flights into London Gatwick, with a presence in London Stansted and other connections to U.K cities, the network is substantial for Emirates in this part of the world.
Leveraging the A380, 777 and A350, all widebody and high-capacity jets, Emirates has built one of the deepest and densest schedules for a foreign carrier seen, with thousands of seats not just daily, but tens of thousands of seats every week continuously being filled and with enough support to warrant the A380’s deployment.
