Emirates Signs Sustainable Aviation Fuel Agreement

Emirates has signed a substantial agreement with Shell Aviation to supply over 300,000 gallons of blended SAF fuel.

This SAF fuel would be used at its international hub in Dubai and is the first SAF delivery under the agreement. Emirates says it will commence before the year’s end.

We are proud to work in partnership with Shell to make a SAF supply available for Emirates in Dubai for the first time, and to utilise the Avelia platform that provides business travellers the flexibility to align their sustainability targets and reduce their environmental footprint when travelling.

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline

Emirates notes that an agreement with Shell Aviation is integral to its long-term environmental strategy. This strategy focuses on three key areas: emissions reduction, conservation of wildlife and habitats, and responsible consumption.

SAF data will be tracked through Avelia Emirates. Shell Aviation powers Avelia and has support from other key companies.

Emirates can purchase physical SAF and associated environmental attributes through Avelia for its long-term future.

Earlier this year, Emirates completed a 100% SAF-powered demonstration flight in the region. This was completed successfully. While its first flight powered by a SAF blend took place in 2017, all part of critical research for the Dubai-based carrier is looking ahead.
