Bonza is saying goodbye to its Chief Commerical Officer, Carly Povey, who has announced her departure.
Carly Povey’s Importance In Bonza’s Story
Carly Povey joined the airline in its early stages, attempting to bring the vision of Bonza to life, and she has done so successfully.
Povey has been pivotal to the emergence of Australia’s newest low-cost carrier, visible at key launches and facilitating future growth plans.
The team at Bonza, alongside Povey, believed it was essential to bring a fresh approach to air travel and the launch of an airline.
Bonza says it was the first to launch an airline with only an app. Additionally, its gender-neutral uniforms and Aussie-only menu worked alongside many other breakthroughs to make Bonza the airline it is today.
Carly has played a fundamental role in setting Bonza up for long-term success. Her strategic vision has set the scene for the next generation Chief Commercial Officer to join our team of legends as we move on from our initial start-up phase. Through Carly’s leadership, we have defied the odds to make aviation history on many levels
Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza
The Development Of Bonza
Povey’s announcement came two years ago, to the week that Bonza reported its initial route map. This route map is focused on connecting travellers from point A to point B.
As a key focus, the airline wanted to eliminate major car rides and build underserved or unserved markets. They weren’t launching to compete with existing carriers but to forge a market.
Looking towards other markets globally, Tim Jordan understood Australia lacked an airline for the people. Additionally, the market struggled to have a cheap alternative on specific routes.
Since launch, Bonza has launched 38 routes and three bases as part of its expansion efforts. With 1.27 million app downloads and partners with local producers around Australia to feature onboard, Bonza has been a hit.
Carly Povey Says Goodbye To Bonza
I joined the start-up crew at Bonza to play a key role in creating the best experience in the skies, to connect communities and deliver much needed positive change to the industry including an offshoot holidays business. Two years in, having set the business up for long term success, now is the time for me to move on to my next challenge, which I’ll start after a much needed Summer break, and which will see me move outside of my comfort zone and pursue new learning and development opportunities.
Whilst this was not an easy decision, I leave behind a very capable team and an airline that has firmly solidified its place in the market and can now focus on continuing to learn and deliver the basics very well, earning the right to grow. I am beyond thankful to Tim, our Bonza legends and 777 Partners for the support they have given me and the chance to build an airline. I’d love to also take the opportunity to thank our partners, including airports, and customers who are a big part of Bonza’s success so far.
Carly Povey, Chief Commerical Officer Of Bonza
Povey will depart Bonza on the 7th of December, 2023. Between now and then, the airline is searching for a new CCO to steer the ship in a positive direction.
