flydubai has published significant updates surrounding its future after experiencing a solid 2025 thus far.
flydubai has thus far taken delivery of seven new aircraft in 2025, all for the 737 MAX family and has been able to grow its reliance on the program.
However, deliveries are not expected to quieten down. According to current forecasting and guidance from American planemaker Boeing, there are a further five of the 737-8 model expected to join the fleet before the end of the year.
flydubai has placed emphasis on the development of its network, particularly in expanding into markets that were previously not connected by its services. Having more aircraft join the business will now make this possible.
Additionally, the benefit of more 737 MAX jets will be evaluated to determine if higher capacity is required in existing markets, which may require more seats on a daily or weekly basis.
The seven aircraft were all received in a short window between April and August 2025, and have grown the fleet to 93 aircraft. Once all 12 are delivered, the airline will see its fleet stand at 95, driven by outgoings.
This fleet is expected to help support the network, which stretches across 57 countries and more than 130 destinations, with more destinations constantly being studied as part of network optimisation efforts.

Despite the welcomed additions, as stated by the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, the planes do come with already heavy delays which have been accumulated in recent years, driven by the ongoing challenges at Boeing in maintaining production rates for the popular single-aisle series.
While, therefore, the airline is happy with the deliveries that have occurred this year and the investment in fleet is supporting their mission to offer greater choice and convenience to their customer base, they are not in the position they would’ve expected.
flydubai says they remain 20 aircraft behind their original projection, which is quite a significant number of planes that, if delivered, would’ve allowed the quicker expansion of the network.
However, with that being said, flydubai is not the only carrier in the world to face something similar; most airlines, whether it be for Boeing or Airbus aircraft, find themselves short, affecting growth and renewal processes.

flydubai also said that throughout this year, and mainly since the beginning of 2024, it has undertaken a significant investment in the retrofit process of its 737-800s, with 23 of these undergoing a complete cabin refit.
The Mukti million-dollar programme is expected to conclude in 2026, based on current timelines, and sees new onboard interiors with lie-flat business class seats and an economy class, which puts the business into a higher category for premium travel.

With this revamp, there has also been the addition of 11 new destinations to the airline’s network this year, including popular summer destinations and four markets in Europe, which are expected to launch by the end of the year, two in September and two in December.
The continued interest from our financing partners highlights the strength of our business model and our commitment to contributing to the UAE’s leadership in global aviation. Looking ahead, these aircraft will enable us to unlock new destinations, optimise our operations and play an even greater role in supporting Dubai’s growth as an international aviation hub.

With growth at the forefront of the strategy for flydubai to support this, there’s a strong requirement for staff, and the ongoing recruitment drive has seen the workforce grow to more than 6,500.
The figure is a 10% increase over the number in 2024 and follows the launch of new pilot training programs to provide a more sustainable pathway for students to reach the front of the aircraft.
