Alaska Airlines Announces Expansion

After reporting its third quarter results, Alaska Airlines announced a route expansion within the United States.

Alaska Airlines Is New York JFK Bound

Alaska Airlines has announced the longest flight in its network with the debut of Anchorage to New York JFK.

At 3,386 miles, the route will be served by a 737-8 aircraft. This variant, once delivered, will have the longest range of capabilities within the fleet, making this route possible.

Alaska says that the addition of the 737-8 from early 2024 will be essential towards allowing the airline to operate towards locations further away.

Anchorage to New York JFK will operate daily from June 13 2024 to August 19 2024, departing Anchorage at 2000. The flight will arrive the following morning at 0705 before returning to Anchorage at 0945 and touching down in Alaska at 1330.

Alaska further notes that the nonstop route will allow New Yorkers a more accessible option to get away and enjoy the wilderness and outdoor adventures.

San Diego Also Added As New Route

Alongside the Anchorage to New York JFK, Alaska Airlines announced it’ll fly towards San Diego from Anchorage.

The flight to be operated by its 737 will run on Saturdays from May 18 2024, to August 17 2024.

Alaska Airlines notes the service will depart at 1450 before closing in San Diego at 2110. After an overnight stay in San Diego, it’ll depart at 0900 before arriving at 1345 back in Anchorage.

Comments From Executives

We’re eager to welcome guests to our great state from the city that never sleeps to the land of the midnight sun on Alaska’s new nonstop flight. Summer is an incredible time to visit Alaska with our warm, long days. There’s so much to do in Anchorage and in the smaller towns nearby, mapping out your itinerary might be the toughest thing you do before heading west.

Jillian Simpson, president and CEO of the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA)

Alaskans love nonstop flights to and from the state. We like having great travel options and adding places such as New York and San Diego definitely fit the bill. During our peak summer days, we’ll have a robust flight schedule of 63 departures a day from Anchorage.

  1. As a long time customer I always loved the use of the companion ticket. This year I tried to use it for some direct flights out of Phoenix and everyone of them sent me to Seattle first even when you offer direct to San Diego. Very disappointed in this. Please look at this at it is not customer friendly
