Air Canada is sharpening its winter-sun travel schedule for 2026/27 by formally launching several new routes and expanding its existing schedule.

For the Canadian flag carrier, this decision is part of ongoing aggressive expansion efforts to add more sunny destinations to the network and capture a larger share of the outbound leisure market in a competitive space.

A Push To The Canary Islands

The headlining move in the latest announcement is the addition of new flights from Toronto and Montreal to Tenerife-Reina Sofia (TFNS), the first and only direct North American-to-Canary service.

Under these newly confirmed winter schedules, Montreal to Tenerife will operate as AC956/957, with departures once a week between October 31, 2026 and April 24, 2027, with the outbound flight departing the Quebec-based city on Saturdays.

The schedule shows the flight departing at 2100 and arriving at 0900, perfect for starting the day the following morning. Departure is scheduled for 1055 back to Canada, with a 1410 arrival home in Montreal on the same day; all times are local.

Additionally, Toronto to Tenerife flights will depart twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays from 25 October 2026 through 29 April 2027 on AC954/955, with a near-identical schedule.

The island, according to the airline, has spent several years improving its positioning in both the business and vacation markets, and this commitment from the Canadian flag carrier is a strong vote of confidence that reinforces its efforts.

The Brand New A321XLR Is Crucial

Critically, these new routes from Montreal and Toronto, as part of the winter 2026/27 schedule, will be operated with the upcoming Airbus A321XLR, a highly anticipated single-aisle jet.

With the Canadian flag carrier already confirming and moving ahead with the transition of the 737 MAX from its mainline division to the leisure brand, Rouge, the role of the A321XLR will be substantial.

Not only does the aircraft come with a healthy seating capacity of 182 passengers, with 14 Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats, but it also marks a new era for cabin interiors, introducing a new design standard for this type of aircraft.

Additionally, the A321XLR’s range capabilities, as indicated by its XLR (Xtra Long Range) naming, enable new opportunities across secondary markets for international service, whether seasonally or year-round, with an efficient aircraft that isn’t a widebody.

More New Flights Coming

Away from Tenerife, the airline has also confirmed several new destinations to be offered from three of its ports in Montreal, Toronto Pearson and Vancouver.

Roatán, Honduras (RTB) will be offered from both Montreal and Toronto from 12 December 2026 through 10 April 2027, with operations from these Canadian cities once a week on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Meanwhile, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ) will be served from Montreal multiple times a week from 10 December 2026 through 18 April 2027.

The last new destination from Toronto Pearson will be service on Mondays and Saturdays from 21 November 2026 through 17 April 2027 to Mérida, Mexico (MID).

Additionally, Vancouver will receive service to Mazatlán, Mexico (MZT), on Tuesdays and Fridays, with this seasonal operation scheduled between 15 December 2026 and 9 April 2027.
